Moderna, renowned for its COVID vaccine, is pioneering AI training for its workforce with the “AI Academy” launched in December 2021.

Initially, all employees undertook a basic AI fundamentals course, but feedback prompted a tailored approach. The curriculum now offers six tracks at varying skill levels, accommodating diverse learning needs.

Partnering with Carnegie Mellon University initially, Moderna has since transitioned its AI upskilling programs in-house. Employee engagement has soared, reflected in a Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 71, indicating high satisfaction. Franklin, Moderna’s spokesperson, credits the revamped curriculum’s flexibility for this success.

In 2023, 25% of employees engaged with the academy, a figure Moderna aims to triple by 2024. While participation isn’t compulsory, it’s strongly encouraged, especially for legal and communications staff.

Moderna’s forward-thinking approach to AI training showcases its commitment to enhancing workflow efficiency and accelerating medication development.
