Hybrid cloud computing, combining private and public clouds, is now common for many organizations, providing various benefits but also posing significant security challenges. For instance, data security, compliance, and managing multiple cloud environments are crucial concerns. According to Forrester, 72% of organizations operate in this hybrid environment.

Despite this, Gigamon’s survey highlights alarming trends. While most IT and security leaders believe they have full visibility into their infrastructure, nearly one-third of breaches go unnoticed. Flexera’s findings echo this, with 93% predicting an increase in cloud security attacks, and 90% experiencing breaches in the last 18 months.

Notably, breaches are often detected post-incident, particularly in the US and Australia. However, there is a positive trend towards collaboration, with 96% acknowledging cloud security as a shared responsibility. CloudOps and SecOps are seen pursuing common goals, although there’s a lack of a security-first culture, leading to vulnerability detection challenges.

Moreover, there’s a disconnect between CISOs and implementation teams, with only 12% confident in maintaining security during cloud migration. Additionally, many boards remain unfamiliar with the shared responsibility model for cloud security, indicating a need for better understanding and collaboration across organizations to tackle these challenges effectively.
